Lovely Review of Love Commandos on Bookbag

“There’s a real feel of India – the heat, the stark contrasts between the rich and the poor, the politics and particularly for the way that the poor are exploited at every turn. You have a sense of being in the middle of it all and I struggle to think of any popular fiction which does this quite so well.”

    Hello Mr. Hall,

I just read the “The Case of the Love Commandos” when it came out in the US last week. It was a very good and entertaining.

It looks like you are delving more deeply into both issues that you see in India as well as giving more time to the varied cast of characters other than Vish Puri. If I may be a bit critical, it gets chaotic and a bit too melodramatic at times, perhaps reflecting Indian society itself. 🙂

I was thrilled to see you mention Hindi pulp fiction and Surendra Pathak. I grew up in the 1980s in Hyderabad, reading good literature and pulp fiction in both English and Hindi. I used to get literary fiction, Hindi magazines and pulp fiction for my grandmother, who knew only Hindi and Urdu. They were very entertaining and have real cultural depth, which you cannot find in English.
